Northumberland County is more than a region—it’s home. Now more than ever, our community needs us to stand together, support local, and build economic strength right here. That’s the mission behind Prosper in Northumberland: a coalition of over 30 local businesses, chambers of commerce, associations, municipalities, and community members joining forces to champion local goods and services, support entrepreneurs, and affirm our Canadian pride.
Why it matters
Sustain local jobs: Every dollar you spend here supports your neighbours, families, and friends—keeping livelihoods close to home.
Fuel the local economy: That money cycles through local services, infrastructure, and charities—making your community thrive.
Lower environmental impact: Buying nearby reduces packaging and transport emissions, while offering fresh, fast, and reliable goods .
Preserve Northumberland’s character: From artisan crafts to family-run cafés, shopping local keeps our unique flavour alive
What Prosper in Northumberland is doing
Local business support – Offering workshops, resources, and training to help local companies grow stronger during economic turbulence.
Revitalized “Buy Local” campaign – A refreshed initiative launched this spring to steer everyday spending toward local shops, restaurants, farms, and services.
Ongoing research & advocacy – Gathering data to understand how tariffs and market shifts are affecting our region—and using those findings to advocate at all government levels.
